Three books, one week

I can’t even believe I was able to read three books in one week. The three books I read were just so hard to put down. It’s quite funny that they all had similar themes about life and how unexpected it really is.

I highly recommend that you buy these books for your collection (if you have one) or just read it at your own leisure:

James Patterson – Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas
Katie Wilkinson has found the perfect man at last–but one day, he disappears, leaving behind only a diary, written by his ex-wife, for he to read. She reads on, filled with terror and hope as she struggles to understand what happened–and whether her new love can survive.

My thoughts: This one’s a really touching book about how you can lose someone you love unexpectedly, then find that maybe they are not the person who you really thought they were. It makes you question whether or not people really do tell the truth about who they really are, and what their real intentions are in the relationship.

Mitch Albom – For One More Day
This is the story of Charley, a child of divorce who is always forced to choose between his mother and his father. He grows into a man and starts a family of his own. But one fateful weekend, he leaves his mother to secretly be with his father and she dies while he is gone. This haunts him for years. It unravels his own young family. It leads him to depression and drunkenness. One night, he decides to take his life. But somewhere between this world and the next, he encounters his mother again, in their hometown, and gets to spend one last day with herthe day he missed and always wished hed had. He asks the questions many of us yearn to ask, the questions we never ask while our parents are alive. By the end of this magical day, Charley discovers how little he really knew about his mother, the secret of how her love saved their family, and how deeply he wants the second chance to save his own.

My thoughts: This book made me cry… a lot! It reminded me so much about my father, how he passed away unexpectedly, and how much I still sometimes wish I could spend just one more day with him to tell him everything I wanted to say.

Arundhati Roy – The God of Small Things
Set mainly in Kerala, India, in 1969, it is the story of Rahel and her twin brother Estha, who learn that their whole world can change in a single day, that love and life can be lost in a moment. Armed only with the invincible innocence of children, they seek to craft a childhood for themselves amid the wreckage that constitutes their family.

My thoughts: I found this book to be so profound and heartbreaking. It really opens up your eyes on how life can be so unexpected and how it can change in the blink of an eye. It makes you want to cherish those little moments you spend with your loved ones every day after you read it.
