Oh Lord, you can probably tell from the photos already what a fun two weekends those were! Thanks to all who came and made it as fun as it can be. Here’s to another year of moments like these… and many, many, many more to come! I’m already looking forward to the 27th…

You can also view the entire 26th birthday photo album on Flickr! :)

Latest obsession

Thanks to Allie, I’ve gotten really fond of Morgan Page. He’s a dance/house DJ and I’ve never really heard of him until I heard his remix of Nelly Furtado’s “Maneater” more than a year ago. It was just recently that Allie posted this on my Facebook wall, and I was instantly hooked. She did post just the album version of this song, but I managed to find a really popular remix of it…

This is from his new album (that was just released), Elevate. Enjoy!

New handbags?

I was just browsing the National Post galleries when I came across this part where they had photos from the Roots Leather Factory here in Toronto. Now, I work for Roots and something in the photos caught my eye…

 Roots Factory

The highlighted parts of the images shows handbags that I’ve never seen before. Could they be just discarded prototypes or maybe they’re going to be released in the summer/fall collection?

Another winter storm

Storm #2 - March 2008Yes, another winter storm battered the region. We’ve all had enough of snow!!!!! Sam and I were shovelling last night, and it took us about an hour to finish. An hour later we were done, there was about another few inches of snow… ugh.

It has not stopped snowing since maybe 2pm on Friday afternoon (it’s been 36 hours). I haven’t really seen it snow this much (and continuously) since I moved here. This has been one large and slow-moving storm system. I’m just looking forward to shovelling again in the morning before I have to head to work.

I’ve enjoyed doing nothing all weekend and just laying low though. I’ve spent most of it reading, which is a good thing. It’s quite refreshing to actually just be able to sit down and read a book again for hours on end!

I really do hope that this is the last winter storm. The snowbank beside my driveway is a little bit taller than I am now. I’ll take photos of that in the morning!

Yummy

During my moments of lying down just awake in bed, I was thinking of Filipino food I love to eat and would love to know how to cook. So I started to list them all in my head, and I noticed that all of these dishes originated from Spain (if you didn’t know, the Philippines were colonized by Spain for more than three centuries: 1521-1897)!

  • Adobo
  • Asado
  • Bebinca
  • Bizcocho
  • Bopiz
  • Calabaza
  • Champorado
  • Chorizo
  • Embutido
  • Empanada
  • Ensaimada
  • Escabeche
  • Lechon
  • Lomo
  • Mechado
  • Paella
  • Tapa
  • Tocino
  • Torta
  • Turron

Now I’m getting hungry just thinking about these yummy things. Only three in my list did not have Spanish roots: Atchara, Bagoong, and Kare-Kare… I know Sheryl (and other Filipinos) will relate to how very delicious these dishes are!
