Yeah, that was today. You might ask why. I’m about to tell you…
My day basically started at 5:30am when I woke up to get ready to drop Sheryl off to the airport. I had breakfast, brewed myself coffee, she finally arrived, then we started heading off just minutes past 6:30am. It was a nice drive. I took the 407 westbound and it was smooth sailing. The 427 southbound had quite the volume (so it was stop and go), but we made it to Terminal 3 by 8am. Now, I’m really not a morning person. I knew that it was just gonna be a quick trip so I only grabbed a cup of coffee, my driver’s licence, and $4 in change for parking. And oh yeah, a $20 bill to put gas in the car.
So I parked the car and headed to the boarding gate with Sheryl. We had about 20 minutes to get there, and she checked in. We said our “see you later” and “take care”… and waved goodbye. It was a pleasant one since I know she’ll be back soon. Now, her boarding gate was at the other side of the terminal (which was about 10 minutes walk) from where I parked. Thinking I had enough time to get out, I started to head to the car.
What happens when I get to the automatic pay machines? It asks me to put in $6 since I went over by a couple of minutes. And what exactly do I have in my pocket? Just my licence, car keys, and $4 in change. Where did the $20 go, you ask? I already filled up before I got to the airport… which was a spontaneous decision since I already decided before I started driving in the morning that I was gonna fill up before I got back home.
We had completely forgotten to ask each other for more change so I’m screwed. So what did I do? I took transit (which took 2 1/2 hours) to go back home and get cash. After that, I had another 2-hour transit ride back to the airport to go get the car. I finally made it back to the garage by 2pm and $24 later, I got the car.
What was funny is that the machine dispensed me some change: a newly-minted, crisp $5 bill. Based on how stressful and just downright silly my day has been, if only I could put that bill to good use… aiyah! :P
